Exam board is not a good sport

1st June 2012 at 01:00

I am gobsmacked - as are many of my colleagues. The reason? The greatest sports show on earth is going to be staged in the UK. In all lessons, we have taken the opportunity to promote the Olympics. But AQA in the 2012 PE GCSE has refused to even acknowledge its existence. Instead, there is a pathetic two-mark question on school facilities having a negative effect on participation. How about next year a question on how GCSE PE exams have a negative effect on staff and pupils engaging in relevant, historical, worldwide, inspiring, educational, cross-curricular, once-in-a-lifetime sporting events? Shame on them.

Karen Oakes, PE subject leader and GCSE PE coordinator, Thornden School, Hampshire.
