From Edinburgh with an education committee agenda of 25 items and West Lothian, where councillors ploughed through 23 topics this week, we cross the Tay to Dundee and the most compact agenda in Scotland had councillors sweating over four items.

They thrilled to refurbishment tenders for St John's High, were switched on over gas installation remedial works (various schools), became electrified by the upgrading of fire alarms at Craigie High, and brought the house down over roof repairs at St Mary's primary.

In Dundee this is known officially as "a special meeting of the education committee".
