Familiar face

23rd June 2000 at 01:00
GONE but not forgotten - a colleague was surprised to see a familiar face last week in Sanctuary Buildings.

Who should be perched on a desk chatting to a civil servant but Anthea Millett, former chief executive of the much maligned (when she was there) Teacher Training Agency? She didn't look too pleased to see The TES (but then, did she ever?) and an enquiry to my colleague's accompanying press minder produced only ashrug.

The last time we saw her, she was sailing off for Antarctica, having retired from the TTA. She also had a three-month stint lined up as an education adviser to the Cayman Islands.

After such exotic locations, SW1 must seem very dull indeed, even in flaming June, but Anthea clearly can't keep away. There's also her gong to enjoy as well - a CBE for serving the TTA in last week's birthday honours.
