Farewell to Bernstein

The life and work of eminent sociologist Professor Basil Bernstein, who died last year, will be celebrated at London University's Institute of Education today. Professor Bernstein worked at the institute from 1962 until he retired in 1990and was the first Karl Mannheim Professor of Sociology in Education. The memorial at Logan Hall consists of music and poetry, plus addresses by British and international scholars discussing the continuing influence of his work.
