FE grants halved

The Education Minister has announced a Pounds 7.8 million capital allocation for further education colleges in the year from April, half that for the current financial year. Colleges had been seeking nearly Pounds 69 million for priority projects.

A reduction had been expected because of the Government's determination that colleges should use the private finance initiative. Only two projects have been proposed, in Stirling and Livingston.
