Fields, food and farming
Farm visits have always been popular with schools. They provide opportunities for pupils to see some (though by no means all) of the realities behind food production, and children like to see the animals. Enterprising farms have built on this by providing staff, classrooms, picnic areas and leaflets.
This work pack goes a step further, and gives the teacher a range of well-produced photocopiable farm visit worksheets - 10 for key stage 1 and 18 for key stage 2. Additionally, there are teacher information sheets and additional pages with photographs and lists of vocabulary.
A typical key stage 1 sheet shows pictures of animals and of foods and invites pupils to link, for example, bees and honey or cows and milk. At key stage 2, one sheet has a "missing words" exercise about the milking process. Some sheets are specific to Stockley Farm, but even these provide general information.
This is a useful resource - thousands of pupils visit farms each year, and in most cases the children will be carrying worksheets and questionnaires made in school by the teacher. The photocopiable material here can either supplement or replace these.
