Derby City Council has organised a #163;28,000 conference for heads at a luxurious spa resort, despite planning to shed 465 jobs, it has emerged. The authority put the event on at the Hoar Cross Hall Spa Resort in Staffordshire, where Derby state schools paid between #163;125 and #163;295 each to send their heads. The fee was met by individual school budgets and heads had the choice whether to go or not. The council said the conference, which gave heads the opportunity to share good practice, represented value for money.
