Flap, flap

The battle between the SNP and Liberal Democrats to become the official opposition to Labour following the Tory wipe-out in Scotland appears to have been settled, at least on the press release count.

We are now awash with communications from Donald Gorrie, the Lib Dems' spokesman on Scottish education. The latest was very mysterious. Headed "Gorrie stands out from the rest", we were invited to witness a photo opportunity: "Donald Gorrie - New Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West and the only non-Labour MP in the central belt - at Edinburgh Zoo."

Gorrie will visit the king penguins' enclosure, we are mysteriously told. This seems an inordinate length to go to merely in an attempt to "stand out from the rest".
