The themes include Scotland's relations with England and Europe, the governance of Scotland, religious change and the Highland and Islands. Michael Lynch, professor of Scottish history at Edinburgh University, provided historical advice and the written material is supported by maps and images, some from the National Museums and Galleries of Scotland.
