* As part of its Box Tops for Education scheme, Nestle Breakfast Cereals is offering every school that registers before January a free maths CD-Rom from Dorling Kindersley. Mad about Maths for KS2 pupils contains 10,000 differentiated problems and Test for Success: Maths (KS3) has a choice of three difficulty levels. * Maths Stuff for Schools is a scheme intended to support Maths Year 2000, the Department for Education and Employment initiative. Schools receive 250 tokens on registration, and can collect many more between now and June 2000 from McVitie's biscuits, KP Hula Hoops and Skips and Mirror Group newspapers. The tokens can be redeemed against maths equipment listed in a special catalogue. Register at www.mathsstuff4schools.com or by calling 08452 065 065 * Alan Parr devises simple mathematically-based simulations for primary pupils built on World Cup seasons. He has produced one for the current Rugby World Cup which involves teachers allocating one or two lessons and children doing much of the work outside the classroom, choosing the tactics to guide the 20 teams through the competition in parallel with the event itself. Charity donations would be appreciated. * Children imagine they are crabs trying to survive the hazards of the shoreline in a numbers board game which Merlin Entertainments, owners of Sea Life Centres, has sent to primary schools. Also available is a teachers' maths pack for ages five to 11, which is free when a booking to any of the 16 Sea Life Centres or aquaria is made, pound;5 otherwise.
