Friday hero

16th June 2000 at 01:00
Jean Rudiger has worked as a classroom assistant for 24 years at Mowlem primary school in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.

Class 4 nominated her, saying: "We think Jean is really generous, helpful and kind. She's great!" Class teacher Gaye Patel says Jean has done "a tremendous job" this year, working mainly on language and literacy support for which she recently had training. Sh lives nearby in Bethnal Green but loves school trips - when Year 6 go to Bayeux in Normandy later this term, Jean will go too.
