Friday Hero

26th January 2001 at 00:00
Sue McKillop is headteacher of St Malachy's RC infant and junior school, Halifax

Sue is a real hero, leading a neighbourhood school in a deprived area with a team that really appreciates her. She involves parents fully in the life of the school and creates a positive, hardworking atmosphere. She deserved a rest over Christmas but in icy conditions had a painful fall and broke her arm. Typically, Sue missed only the training day at the beginning of term and that's because she was in hospital. "It's the only day off sick se's ever taken," says Year 5 class teacher Jo Woodhead, who nominated her for our Friday Hero treats - flowers, champagne and chocolates. "We know she's suffering but she doesn't complain and is there supporting everyone else," says Jo. "She's as busy as ever."

Please send the name of your Friday Hero - and why he or she should get our goodies - to Sarah Bayliss, Friday magazine, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1W 1BX, or email kindly supplied by Marks amp; Spencer
