Friends root for Abigail
Ms Witchalls is a basic skills lecturer at East Surrey college, in Redhill.
Since the birth of her 21-month-old son, she has worked part-time, pioneering a family learning course in English for speakers of other languages.
A spokesman for the college said: "We hope this is a sign that her paralysis may not be permanent."
Since the attack, in Little Bookham, Surrey, on April 20, in which Ms Witchalls was paralysed from the neck down, staff have sent flowers and organised a charity collection at her request.
Principal Frances Wadsworth said: "We are all incredibly shocked and saddened by what has happened to Abigail.
"Her colleagues and her students are missing her, and we are united in the hope that she will recover."
