Ex-forces personnel become teachers (TES Magazine, 11 June) - nothing new there! Sixty years ago, I suppose all my male teachers were veterans of one of the world wars. As teachers, they had little in common. Some kept order, others, at best, struggled; some were good teachers, some rather poor.
