Funding measure

NOT only did the Aussies stage the best Olympics ever, but they may have come up with a wheeze that might solve a funding crisis - at least in Scottish schools.

South Australian education minister Malcolm Buckby told diners at a recent conference in Glasgow that seven schools in his state produce xcellent wine. A New York restaurant is charging $50 (pound;34) a bottle for the product of one school, he boasted.

Peter Peacock, Scotland's deputy education minister responded that it would be fine by him for any school to distil whisky - as long as they sent him a sample from each batch.
