Futebol with Socrates

11th February 2005 at 00:00
Brazilian football star Socrates came to our school recently and practised some top-class futebol de Salio with pupils.

Teacher Gillian Clifford is married to former teacher Simon Clifford, who has widely introduced this Brazilian football coaching style, using a small heavy ball, to the UK.

When Simon, who now owns Garford Town FC, brought Socrates over to join his team, we invited the player to our school. We also held an assembly in which Socrates, Brazilian World Cup captain in 1982 and 1986, presented us with his football shirt.
