Future comfort

4th July 2003 at 01:00
THE only comfort I can take from your front-page news that I might have another 15 - rather than 10 - years to go, is that it could mean that before the end of my career I will witness Mike Tomlinson's scrapping of A-levels in favour of a bac-style diploma (TES, June 20 page 3) and school effectiveness measured by what goes on in classrooms (David Reynolds, page 23). It might just be worth it!
