Gaelic - The G-plan

15th May 2009 at 01:00
Learning and Teaching Scotland is looking for feedback about its plans for promoting Gaelic across Scotland

Its draft Gaelic language plan is now available for consultation. Chief executive Bernard McLeary said: "I am confident our plan sets out clearly how LTS will use and support Gaelic in the delivery of our services, working closely with the Scottish Government, Bord na Gaidhlig and other key partners and stakeholders.

"The Gaelic Plan also outlines the steps we have taken and are putting in place to further support the promotion of Gaelic in education throughout Scotland. It describes our commitment to raising the status, promoting the use and encouraging the learning of Gaelic."

Hundreds of new children's Gaelic books have been added to Edinburgh's Central Children's Library, and the city's Fountainbridge Library, thanks to a grant from Bord na Gaidhlig awarded to the local library service.

Children from the Gaelic teaching unit at Tollcross Primary in Edinburgh put their heads together to name the dedicated reading area and surrounding book collection in Fountainbridge Library. They came up with Nead na Gaidhlig, or Gaelic Nest.

Closing date for responses is June 2.
