Gay bashers in the staffroom

More than 40 per cent of gay teachers have suffered homophobia from colleagues, according to a Teacher Support Network survey.

Overall, four out of five had suffered abuse at work, ranging from offensive jokes to assault, with 17 per cent saying they were too scared to go to school. Pupils were the worst offenders according to 86 per cent of victims. But two out of five experienced homophobia from managers, 14 per cent from parents and 6 per cent from governors, the poll of 194 teachers found.
