What is it?

"Weather" is a collection of resources for primary pupils of all ages.

How to use it

Sorting Clothes for Different Weather gets younger children to look at how the weather affects the way we dress. Lbuzzybea has uploaded a set of visual resources that teachers can laminate, looking at clothes that pupils might wear in warm weather, cold weather and the rain. So for winter, there are pictures of a coat, hat, earmuffs, scarf, gloves and cosy boots, while for summer there are flip-flops, T-shirt, cap, swimsuit, shorts and sunglasses.

There is also a large selection of resources around cold weather. Toty has uploaded a lovely range based on winter, including pictures of the seasons, a template for a "keeping warm" book and a winter poem. There is also a worksheet for drawing what the trees look like in different seasons. For upper primary pupils, Rbinnie1 has uploaded a complete set of lesson plans and template resources for the weather around the world.

Sophie Duncan, project manager for science at the BBC, has also shared some lesson plans with us, which could be suitable for either upper primary science or geography lessons. These include a practical lesson where pupils can create the tornado principle using two plastic bottles, another where they can make weather vanes using sticks or a plate with ribbons to measure the wind direction, or a practical lesson plan for making your own barometers to measure air pressure.
