Initiatives run by the Sutton Trust education charity have produced benefits worth an average of pound;15 for every pound;1 spent, research has revealed.

A study undertaken by Boston Consulting Group to celebrate the charity's 10th birthday calculated the figure based on the future earnings of young people who took part in its schemes aimed at improving social mobility.

The education charity has committed pound;10 million over the next five years on widening access to top universities.
