Further to the problems raised by your correspondents regarding the difficulties in the key stage 2 tests, I have this week spent more than seven hours re-checking the marking of papers.
In English story-writing in particular, many assessments of performance are simply wrong.
Last year we participated in the pilots, including agreement-trialling of our marking with colleagues throughout the county, and our judgments were confirmed, both in our grading of the tests and the levels awarded to the children.
I therefore have confidence in our assessments and find it difficult to believe that some of the markers have experience of Year 6 children and of what can reasonably be expected of 10 to 11-year-olds in exam conditions.
