Tony Blair took off his jacket and several hundred schoolgirls screamed. The election campaign had officially begun. Even by the high standards of this lot, it made for deeply cynical occasion. The Prime Minister had seen the Queen. Now he had taken the limo south of the Thames to a girls' school in a deprived area.
