Governor spend

Emrys Batchelor asks how many grant-maintained schools devote budget allocations to governor training.

I conducted some research two years ago that showed only about one third of grant-maintained schools are buying in governor training.

And a few weeks ago I attended one of the Department for Education's "Going GM" conferences.

A secondary headteacher - presumably of a school approved by the powers that be - exhibited his school's savings on central costs, a total saving of Pounds 110,000.

Under the budget head "governor training" stood the figure Pounds 55.10.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of State announces changes in priority for Grants for Education Support and Training funding-taking yet more money away from LEA governor training.

So the Governments' priorities are clear!
