Gran's lifelong learning award

JOAN Brompton, an 80-year-old grandmother who left school with no formal qualifications, this week received a special prize for lifelong learning. Joan enrolled for her first O-evel at 49 and has since achieved an MSc in social sciences, a BA in combined studies and MAs in cultural studies and English literature.
