Green Cross Code man returns

25th February 2000 at 00:00
THE Green Cross Code man is back on the streets, spreading the road safety message to a new generation of pedestrians. Ten years after supposedly hanging up his distinctive green costume for good, Dave Prowse is back in his element telling children to "stop, look and listen".

The veteran actor, who played Darth Vader in the Star Wars films and was the face of road safety from 1970-90, is now 64, and has had three hip operations. He confessed to having had to go on a diet to fit into the costume.
