Readers of In-Front 2000, this year's start-of-term giveaway newspaper from Dumfries and Galloway College, learnt that Jim Neil, principal for 18 years, has retired. They might have been forgiven for thinking that the piece was something to do with the size of the principal rather than the growth of the college. "Principal steps down after 18 years of expansion," the headline ran.
