A festival of handball at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh at the start of the month provided evidence that the sport is gaining popularity in Scottish schools.

Under-12 and under-14 teams from Edinburgh, East Kilbride and Cumbernauld took part in matches against teams from Liverpool, Newcastle and Chester. There were also Scotland v England friendly internationals at under-14, under-16 and under-20 level.

Fred Wallace, development officer for the Scottish Handball Association, says: "Handball is growing as a popular sport in Scotland. This was an important event for us."
