The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council is allocating pound;600 million in the next academic year, a 0.5 per cent increase above inflation. The council has earmarked pound;11 million to target lifelong learning, wider access and the "knowledge economy". St Andrew's College, which merged with Glasgow University yesterday (Thursday), has a 12 per cent rise because of the need to step up recruitment to Catholic schools.
