Head dips into her pocket

The head of a Leicester school has spent pound;1,000 of her own money on rewarding star pupils.

Judith Smith drew on her savings after Babington community college was unable to replace a mystery London businesswoman who previously donated the cash.

Mrs Smith is using money she gets from educational consultancy to continue the six-year-old tradition of rewarding outstanding GCSE results.
