Head inquiry

27th November 1998 at 00:00
An inquiry has been launched into claims that a headteacher asked parents to keep two difficult pupils away from school during an inspection by the Office for Standards in Education.

Coventry Council is investigating the claim against Dick Withington, acting head of Gosford Park primary. The school's inspection was due to finish today.

An OFSTED spokeswoman said: "OFSTED takes a dim view of this. The inspectors need to see the school as it normally operates, to give a fair and accurate report. This does not benefit the pupils concerned and we are pleased the authority is investigating."
