Help for prep schools

28th June 1996 at 01:00
Following a year-long inquiry into education for under-fives in prep schools, the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools has published a report intended to help schools to ensure that their pre-school education meets the highest standards. It covers accommodation, staffing, curriculum, length of day, records and reporting, resources, links with parents, the role of the head of nursery and links with the rest of the school.

Among its recommendations are: more generous staffing levels than those advocated by the Department for Education and Employment; and three consecutive mornings' attendance for pre-nursery children and five consecutive mornings at the nursery stage. The report costs Pounds 25 from: IAPS, 56 Buckingham Gate, London SW1E 6AG.
