Anne Frank + You, a three-week long free festival which celebrates the life of Anne Frank and marks Fife Council's contribution to International Holocaust Memorial Day 2007, launches in Kirkcaldy on Monday with a series of exhibitions.

The main exhibition, Anne Frank + You, opens in The Atrium at Adam Smith College and runs until January 28 (Mondays to Thursdays only until 8pm).

This large, multi-media show features the voices of young people in Britain today, alongside the voices, hopes and experiences of Anne Frank and the other Jews who were in hiding with her in Amsterdam at the time of the Holocaust.

It touches on the five chosen themes of the festival: racial hatred; conflict and peace; inclusion and exclusion; democracy and dictatorship; responsibility and indifference. The exhibition also raises specific issues such as bullying, racism in football and the right to wear religious symbols.

Visitors can enter a virtual, life-size replica of Anne's room in the secret annexe.

An Anne Frank + Family exhibition at Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery, features family photographs taken by Otto Frank, Anne's father, dating from the birth of his children to the time when they went into hiding from the Nazis in 1942.

This is only the second time that these historic photographs have been seen outside the Anne Frank House. The exhibition runs until January 28 and is open seven days a week.

Anne Frank + Family is complemented by a video on loan from the museum in Amsterdam, featuring interviews with Otto Frank, those who helped hide the Frank family and people who, unlike Anne, survived the Nazi concentration camps. She died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen, aged 16.

Free arts workshops and theatre performances for schools will run on a daily basis throughout the festival, which culminates on January 28 with a candle-light procession in the town.
