The hills are alive with Gaelic
The four-week Gaelic for Hill Walkers course is aimed at beginners and explores Gaelic grammar, phonetics and pronunciation of Gaelic place names, as well as wildlife, natural history and historical events.
The course is delivered by Telford's Gaelic tutor, Neil MacGregor, who has 30 years of experience teaching Gaelic and Celtic studies. "I developed the course because there wasn't anything else quite like it," he says. "It allows people to combine their love of the countryside and hill walking with Gaelic culture and language. As well as teaching Gaelic, the course incorporates other languages that appear in place names in Scotland English, Welsh and the Scandinavian languages."
