On His Majesty's service

14th September 2001 at 01:00
IT'S official - we are going up in the world. On a recent visit to the headquarters of Her Majesty's Inspectorate in Glasgow, our correspondent's security tag proudly announced our status as "King's Educational Supplement".

We cannot think this was a mere misspelling or misprint, given the care and close inspection for which our HMIs are justly renowned. Rather, we are content to believe Her Majesty's finest know something we don't.

After the small matter of the Queen's abdication and Charles ascending the throne, we will await our royal charter, humbly, but with quiet confidence. (Anyone for a knighthood?)
