History - Model answers

A new book claims to prepare pupils for Standard grade history exams better than standalone past papers.

Co-author Neil McLennan, principal teacher of history at Edinburgh's Tynecastle High, said: "We felt that the previous past papers were of limited value to school students. Even with markers' notes, often they could not work out how to get to the model answer.

"This book bridges that gap with worked answers, which not only show the answer but how to get to it. Also, the exam guidance section at the front helps students identify question types and use the appropriate skills to answer each one."

The other co-author of the book, published by Leckie, is former principal assessor Bruce Jamieson, who was principal teacher of history at Linlithgow Academy until retirement. The official title is Practice Papers for SQA Exams (History) (with worked answers).
