The war at home

Round off Women's History Month with a website for key stage 3 pupils about the home front during the Second World War: http:wrvslearning.wordpress.com

What is it?

The Women's Voluntary Service (the "women in green") was the largest voluntary organisation ever to exist in the UK, with more than 1 million members. Drawing from original source material, the website paints a picture of the role women played during the war. It includes comprehension questions, extracts from sources, debating tasks and an image gallery. With a focus on comparing source materials, it is an ideal resource for developing historical enquiry skills.
