The war at home

Round off Women's History Month with a website for key stage 3 pupils about the home front during the Second World War: http:wrvslearning.wordpress.com

What is it?

The Women's Voluntary Service (the "women in green") was the largest voluntary organisation ever to exist in the UK, with more than 1 million members. Drawing from original source material, the website paints a picture of the role women played during the war. It includes comprehension questions, extracts from sources, debating tasks and an image gallery. With a focus on comparing source materials, it is an ideal resource for developing historical enquiry skills.

What else?

Explore the Women's Voluntary Service and the Women's Land Army further in hroberts999's resource pack. Or find out how the role of women in the Second World War changed society with a new lesson plan from Women's History Month.
