We know the feeling having occasionally (very occasionally) been caught out by events between going to press and appearing on the streets. Pity the Professional Association of Teachers whose Scottish newsletter records the retirement of deputy general secretary David Jones after 11 years' "invaluable" service.

Er no. A note with the newsletter points out that Jones is back. The general secretary, John Andrews, has precipitately parted company and Jones becomes acting general secretary.
