Honour for Welsh head

Welsh head Gareth Matthewson has been awarded an OBE for services to education in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Mr Matthewson, 58, has been at the helm of Whitchurch high school, Cardiff, for the past 12 years. He is a former president of the National Association of Headteachers, a role he held from 2003 to 2004. In a 2003 report, school inspectors praised Mr Matthewson for his "high expectations". He said: "Whatever I've achieved could not have been done without those I work with."
