Hot Currie

13th November 1998 at 00:00
It's official. Eleanor Currie, East Renfrewshire's knowledgeable, insightful, committed and determined director of education (so says HMI, page 18), is the First Lady of Eastwood.

This is not a title bestowed by HMI but by the Eastwood Rotary Club through whose portals she has been accepted as the first female member (although there is now a second). This has clearly been a shock of every description for the old buffers, not least being forced to address their fellows as "Rotarians" not "Gentlemen".

Fortuitously, given the partnership between East Renfrewshire and HMI, Currie was fascinated to discover that an old boy of Eastwood Rotarians in their politically incorrect days was none other than chief HMI Douglas Osler.
