How to score points

6th May 2005 at 01:00
Q: I'm in the science department. What duties should I take on to get responsibility or management points? Can I acquire management points while I'm in my induction year? I'm doing extra ICT duties; can I be get extra points for this?

A: With the reorganisation of responsibility payments into just two bands, schools will be looking at what they are paying staff for additional duties. In the past, your ICT responsibilities may well have attracted extra payments and there was nothing to stop you being paid these during your induction year. However, I foresee that many schools will be removing these payments under the new arrangements and perhaps offering some other type of recompense. It is likely that managing a subject within the science curriculum or, in a large school, a key stage programme, might attract additional responsibility payments. Anything that is mostly clerical or administrative will not be rewarded.
