Channel 4 - Modern Languages

Channel 4 Learning's new modern languages website builds on the success of the recent French and German television series, Chez Mimi and Hennings Haus. Designed with Learning and Teaching Scotland for P6-7, the site offers language games at three levels.

While the games are based on the topic language of the series, the site will work equally well as a stand-alone classroom resource. All the games have a sharp language focus. In Rainbow Rooms, the language of colour, rooms and furniture leads pupils to redecorate rooms according to visual and audio instructions. In Weather Reports, pupils devise European weather reports with maps and symbols.

Primary teachers will welcome the development of creative writing skills in Cartoon Builder, in which pupils can create their own cartoon versions of the Chez Mimi story. A token-based award system adds incentive and instructions for all games are in English, giving greater pupil autonomy.
