Apps for primary schools
Software developer 2Simple has launched an online forum for primary schools. Purple Mash features a range of apps, such as 3D design, publishing and a town simulation. Further applications, such as maths games and painting projects, will be available on subscription, although the entire site will be free to use until the beginning of August. A one-year licence will cost #163;500. For details, go to www.2simple.compurplemash.
Make the most of Web 2.0
Naace, the association for ICT teachers, has developed online courses to help teachers make the most of Web 2.0. The courses are tailored to both primary and secondary teachers and provide a practical introduction to Web 2.0 tools and how to use them in the classroom. Both courses last four hours and can be put towards the Naace online ICT diploma. For details and to register, go to www.ictcpd4free.co.uk.
A compilation of projects using Web 2.0 applications in the classroom has been published by independent ICT consultant Terry Freedman. The Amazing Web 2.0 Projects Book features 87 primary and secondary uses of Web 2.0 submitted by ICT teachers across the UK. It includes sections on benefits, challenges and tips on how to implement the applications. The book can be downloaded free from www.ictineducation.org.
