ICT - Resource of the week
Autism and the auditorium
Picturehouse Cinemas are hosting autism-friendly screenings of The Iron Giant for schools to chime with National Storytelling Week. The Tales of Wisdom and Wonder season is running at Stratford, Greenwich and Hackney cinemas in London until 10 February and is targeted at primary school audiences. Screenings include an optional interactive storytelling introduction.
Pupils are shown the film in low light rather than darkness, the volume is lowered for a more soothing experience and children can move around, make noise or take a break during the film. Each screening has a 10-minute introduction to broaden children's cultural awareness and knowledge of cinema. Pupils are charged a minimal fee and teachers can attend for free. Booking is essential.
Picturehouse has six cinemas in London and a further 14 across the UK. Most of them run autism-friendly screenings throughout the year. To book a visit or for more information on the programme, contact Elinor Walpole on 07967 047 401 or via email at email@example.com
