A free online resource will help students deal with the business transactions of everyday life.
Skilled to Go is the first to be developed by the Office of Fair Trading for the education sector. It is designed to support literacy and numeracy courses found in further education, community education and the teaching of offenders.
It uses familiar situations, such as choosing a mobile phone package or shopping online, as the basis for developing consumer skills. There are three modules: buying and selling; technology; and utilities.
The resource is available in a version adapted for Scotland, following a trial at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies.
The OFT and LLU+, a literacy and numeracy consultancy at London's South Bank University which helped design the resource, will run a free introductory workshop for tutors on Friday, July 4 at Glasgow's Radisson SAS Hotel. Trevor Jones T: 0207 7815 6260; E: email@example.com
