Independents bag A-level A* bounty

Nearly a fifth of private school A-level pupils were awarded the new A* grade, compared to the national average of just one in ten. More than half of independent school entries received at least an A, while 6 per cent gained three or more of the top A* grade, according to the Independent Schools Council.
