RESEARCH REQUESTS

Mark Chidler would like to hear, in strict confidence, from readers who have been bullied (particularly in the primary sector). Address: 16 Coleman Court, Grovewood Drive, Kings Norton, Birmingham B38 8NU.

Clive Booth recently revisited the school in Tanzania where he started his teaching career 35 years ago. The Tanzanian A-level English examination includes a compulsory section on poetry appreciation, but the school's head of English is hard put to find poems the students are likely to enjoy. If any reader has used poetry successfully in African schools or knows of a suitable anthology please write to: 10 Hall Lane, Dovercourt, Harwich, Essex CO12 3TE.

SANTA WANTS LETTERS FROM BLIND CHILDREN

Blind and partially-sighted children are being encouraged to write and tell Santa what they want for Christmas by December 12. He (helped by the Royal National Institute for the Blind) will send a personal letter back in either Braille, Moon, large print or on tape. Address: Santa Claus, co PO Box 16, Peterborough PE2 6WS.

BRITISH HEDGEHOG PRESERVATION SOCIETY

The mild weather has confused hedgehogs, bringing them out of hibernation soon after they'd tucked themselves in. Normally, they rouse properly when tempted out by warm, spring weather, but don't hibernate for the whole winter and are often seen bumbling around looking for food in the snow. When the ground is frozen, the public can help boost hedgehogs' depleted energy reserves by providing meat scraps and clean water. For details of BHPS leaflets, activities and goods send SAE to: BHPS, Knowbury House, Shropshire SY8 3LQ.
