It's good to talk
* create a safe environment where children can explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviours;
* create a self-referral system which gives children options of where and when to meet;
* foster self-confidence;
* encourage self-awareness, problem solving skills and growth towards autonomy; and
* encourage open communication between the counsellor and staff andor parents, and between the child and parents andor staff, while respecting the confidences of each child.
