A strong attack on musical "elitism" was launched in Fife last week by Jim Brennan, chairman of the council's community services committee. "I cannot understand why we spend so much time in a place like Fife on classical and jazz music, which reflects the aspirations of the parents rather than the child. Young people prefer Blur to Bach and they certainly prefer Oasis to Glenn Miller . . . mind you I prefer Sydney Devine to Glenn Miller."
