Moves by the Assembly government to ensure the "safe recruitment" of supply teachers in Wales's schools throughout 20078, with all the appropriate criminal bureau checks, has led to the appointment of the first-ever assessor of supply teaching standards within teacher recruitment agencies and local authorities in Wales. The Recruitment and Employer Confederation has appointed Nigel Williams to award the coveted quality mark to teacher recruitment agencies and local authorities which meet the required standards. Mr Williams's role also extends to raising schools' awareness of their contribution to safe recruitment.
